Skradin – The Gateway to Krka National Park

Planning a visit to Krka National Park? I offer private round trip transfers to Krka from anywhere in Croatia — you book the transport, I get you there and back, and you explore the park at your own pace. No group tours, no fixed schedules, no shared vehicles.

Skradin is the gateway town for Krka National Park and the most scenic entry point to the park. I drop you off directly at the entrance, we agree a pickup time that suits you, and I am there when you are ready to leave. The price covers the full round trip, door to door, with no hidden costs.

On this page you will also find practical visitor information about entrances, tickets, best visiting times and what to bring — everything you need to plan your day at Krka.

About Krka National Park

Krka National Park covers 109 square kilometres of the Krka river canyon in Dalmatia, Croatia. The park is named after the Krka river, which flows through a dramatic limestone canyon before widening into a series of lakes, rapids, and waterfalls. The most famous of these is Skradinski Buk, one of the largest travertine waterfalls in Europe and the centrepiece of most Krka day trips.

The park has been a protected national park since 1985 and attracts over one million visitors per year. Despite its popularity, arriving early and choosing the right entrance can give you a completely different experience from the crowds. The wooden boardwalks that wind through the park pass through lush Mediterranean vegetation, alongside the turquoise river, and offer viewpoints over the canyon that few other places in Croatia can match.

Beyond Skradinski Buk, the park also includes the island monastery of Visovac, the Roški Slap waterfall further upstream, and the remains of ancient Roman and medieval settlements along the riverbanks. A full day in the park gives you time to explore well beyond the main waterfall area that most visitors see.

Krka National Park Entrances – Which One is Right for You?

Skradin Entrance (Recommended)

The Skradin entrance is the most scenic way to enter Krka National Park and the one I always recommend to first-time visitors. From Skradin harbour you board a boat that travels along the Krka river through the canyon directly to Skradinski Buk waterfall. The boat ride itself is one of the most beautiful parts of the entire visit and is included in the price of your park entrance ticket. The Skradin entrance is also the closest to Skradin town, making it ideal if you are basing yourself here or combining a park visit with time in the town.

Lozovac Entrance

The Lozovac entrance is located on higher ground above the canyon and is accessible by road from the main Dalmatian highway. From the Lozovac car park a shuttle bus or a descent on foot takes you down into the park. This entrance is more convenient for visitors arriving by car who want to avoid driving through Skradin town. However it does not include the scenic boat ride and gives you a different starting point within the park compared to the Skradin entrance.

Roški Slap Entrance

The Roški Slap entrance gives access to the upper part of the park including the Roški Slap waterfall and the Visovac island monastery. This entrance is less busy than Skradin or Lozovac and is worth considering if you have already visited Skradinski Buk and want to explore a different part of the park on a second visit.

Krka National Park Tickets & Visitor Information

Park Entrance Tickets

Krka National Park entrance tickets can be purchased in advance on the official park website at npkrka.hr or at the entrance on the day. In peak season from June to September, purchasing tickets in advance is strongly recommended. Daily visitor numbers are capped and tickets regularly sell out, especially for the Skradin entrance which includes the boat ride. Buying in advance guarantees your entry and saves time at the gate.

Best Time to Visit

The park is open year-round but the peak season runs from June to September when visitor numbers are at their highest. The best time to arrive in summer is early morning, before 9am, when the crowds are thinnest and the light on the waterfalls is at its most beautiful. Visiting in May, early June, or September gives you good weather with significantly fewer visitors than July and August.

How Long to Spend in the Park

Most visitors spend between 3 and 4 hours inside the park, which is enough time to walk the full boardwalk circuit around Skradinski Buk and take in the main viewpoints. If you want to explore further into the park, visit Visovac island, or simply take your time, a full day is easily justified. I always recommend allowing at least 3 hours as a minimum.

What to Bring

  • Comfortable walking shoes suitable for wooden boardwalks and uneven terrain
  • Sunscreen and a hat, especially in summer
  • Water – it can be warm inside the park in peak season
  • Cash or card for food and drinks at the park restaurant
  • Your park entrance ticket, either printed or on your phone
  • A camera – you will want one

What is the difference between a private Krka National Park transfer and a group tour to Krka?

With a private transfer you travel exclusively with your own group in a comfortable private vehicle. You set the departure time, choose your entrance, and decide how long you spend inside the park. Group tours have fixed departure times, fixed schedules, and shared vehicles with strangers. For most families and small groups, a private transfer works out at a similar or lower cost per person while giving far more flexibility.
